Debate, discuss and present
The course is aimed at those who would like to develop their presentation skills.
You will learn a range of essential skills necessary for a successful presentation:
- making an effective opening
- outlining the structure of your presentation
- signalling the beginning and the end of each point you are presenting
- commenting on visuals
- inviting questions and dealing with them.
You will also learn a lot of useful language which will help you manage these elements of a presentation confidently and effectively. Such language will typically include phrases used for signposting to allow for a smooth transition from one part of your presentation to the next, as well as phrases used to comment on your visuals. In addition you will learn techniques to make sure your listeners¹ attention is on the presentation throughout.
An additional focus will be on some grammatical forms to support you in this task.
You will start presenting early on in the course by practising different parts of your presentation separately. This will culminate in two full presentations in front of a small audience, who will give you their feedback.
